Sister Mary Kay Tyrell, D.C., joined Saint Thomas in June 2003, as senior vice president and chief mission and ministry officer for Saint Thomas Health Services, as well as vice president for mission at Saint Thomas Hospital.
Sister Mary Kay earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Marillac College in St. Louis, a master's in nursing in maternal child health and a Midwifery Certificate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.
Sister Mary Kay previously served at St. Joseph Services in Chicago, where she worked in developing an urban multi-ministry. While at St. Joseph, she contributed to the formation of the Chicago Health Collaborative, a partnership of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, PrimeCare Community Health, Inc. (a federally qualified health system), Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and St. Joseph Services to address health and social disparities in a specific location.
Her other experience includes Mission Vice President/Consult for Resurrection Healthcare System, Interim Director of Catholic Health Partners Foundation, Vice President of Mission, Values and Ethics at St. Joseph Hospital, Chicago, Il, Director of the Daughters of Charity Foundation, Evansville, Ind., and founder of the Nurse Midwifery Service at St. Margaret's in Montgomery, Ala. Sister Mary Kay also spent several years as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville and St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Mich.
